Oncology Nursing Pharmacology Curriculum: Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTKs)

This course provides nurses with a comprehensive overview of Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs), focusing on their structure, activation, and role in cancer progression, as well as the mechanisms of drug binding, therapeutic pathways and toxicities.
Target Audience
This course is designed for nurses caring for patients being treated with Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTKs).
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the structure and function of Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTKs) and their role in cancer cell signaling
- Explain the mechanisms of action, common toxicities, and resistance patterns associated with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKIs)
- Apply clinical knowledge to support nursing care, patient education, and symptom management in patients receiving RTK-targeted therapies
