Patient Education Best Practices: Highlighting Clinician All-Stars - Livestream (virtual)
This course is offered for Mayo Clinic Personnel only

Broadcast in Central Time
This seminar highlights the vital role clinicians play in effectively engaging and educating patients. Despite unprecedented access to digital health information, many patients still struggle to find, understand, and apply reliable resources. Faced with complex health decisions and the daily burdens of managing illness, patients can easily become overwhelmed. Delivering patient education that fits the individual’s capacity is, therefore, both a clinical and compassionate act.
Through examples from Mayo Clinic clinician “all-stars” (i.e., professionals recognized by patient education specialists for their outstanding contributions to the creation and delivery of patient education), participants explore practical, evidence-based strategies for communicating health information in a way that impacts clinical practice.
Target Audience
This course is designed for the many disciplines and clinicians involved in providing patient education to medical patients, including physicians, advanced care providers, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, care coordinators, health coaches, those who develop and deliver patient education content, and all who contribute to informing and empowering patients.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe key patient education best practices as evidenced in the collaborative work of Mayo Clinic Health Education & Content Services (HECS) and select clinician all-stars.
 - Identify Mayo Clinic Health Education & Content Services (HECS) resources available to clinicians, including how to search for patient education materials and collaborate with HECS specialists to enhance patient education delivery.
