Neonatal head circumference is a surrogate measure for brain volume which is related to neurocognitive development later in life. Fetal brain growth increases rapidly during the third trimester, so interruption in normal in-utero brain development due to SARS-CoV-2 infection could have a larger effect if it took place during this specific gestational period. In this study, we examined the effect of asymptomatic and paucisymptomatic maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection timing on fetal head circumference at birth in a cohort of 349 infants born to asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infected mother during pregnancy, the fetal head circumference at birth was smaller, but within normal range, if the maternal infection occurred during the third trimester. The clinical significance, if any, of this observation is unknown. Longitudinal studies looking at subtle alterations in brain structure and functions in these children are needed
