Psychiatry in Medical Settings course returns for its eleventh year.  The course provides up-to-date reviews of treatment-resistant depression and anxiety with ketamine, psychodelics and neuromodulation; delirium; sexual health and substance use disorders in medical-surgical patients. Special populations are reviewed including patients with cancer, patients undergoing transplant, and the transgender patient.

Each day includes a featured topic thoroughly covered by a group of medical and behavioral specialists through well-coordinated didactic presentations, panel discussions and interactive workshops. Featured topics for 2022 are cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation, epilepsy and long COVID syndrome.

Target Audience

This course is designed for family physicians, general internists, psychiatrists, and advanced practice providers.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the evidence regarding the effects of depression, anxiety, and emotional distress on the outcomes of patients with cardiac disease.
  • Identify the advances in the understanding of brain function and the neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological impacts of epilepsy surgery for patients with epilepsy.
  • Summarize the current data on the neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological impact of COVID-19 infection in the acute and long-term and the evidence-based treatments for those.
