Speaker #1: Subhajit Chakravorty, M.D. 

Dr. Chakravorty is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine and a Staff Physician at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia. He completed his medical training at the University College of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He then pursued psychiatry training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and an integrated research and clinical post-doctoral fellowship in sleep and addiction medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) at the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he earned a Master of Science in Translational Research from PSOM. 

Dr. Chakravorty provides care for patients in sleep medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and with addictive disorders at the affiliated VA Medical Center. His primary research interest lies in the personalized treatment of insomnia in alcohol use disorder (AUD). He has conducted numerous clinical trials exploring both pharmacological and behavioral treatments for insomnia in AUD. Furthermore, he has a growing interest in utilizing electronic health records (EHR) for research, particularly focusing on insomnia in opioid use disorder. Currently, he is investigating an EHR-based phenotype of insomnia to enhance our understanding of this disorder using data at scale. 

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate how insomnia is associated with alcohol consumption and Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). 

  1. Describe the current knowledge of behavioral treatments for insomnia co-occurring with AUD. 

  2. Identify pharmacological treatment options that have been evaluated in insomnia co-occurring with AUD.
