Brief Review of Pain Science in Practice

Introduction:
Andrea Reynolds, PT has over 30 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist at Mayo Clinic, working in acute care, wound care, mental health and specializing in Chronic Pain Rehabilitation. She has contributed to education through CME presentation, guest lecturing at the Mayo School of Health-Related Sciences Program in PT, peer presentations within the work unit, and mentoring within the pain management field.
Deborah Gross is a physical therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience in numerous settings (neuro, ortho, post-surgical, geriatric, mental health) with 17 years at Mayo Clinic. She has 11 years specializing in chronic pain rehabilitation for adult and teen patient populations (including fibromyalgia, POTS, functional movement, chronic fatigue, CRPS and various chronic pain conditions). She has contributed to education through departmental educational series presentations, guest lectures at PT school, and as a speaker at the Annual Enterprise Therapy Education Conference. She finds joy in guiding people to find joy in movement again.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recall at least two tactics clinicians can use to help clients deepen their understanding of their pain problem.
- Describe 2 clinical applications of addressing DIMS (Danger in Me) and promoting SIMS (Safety in Me) in treating clients with chronic symptoms.
