Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:
- Summarize current technology used for mechanical circulatory support at MCH.
- Review the current status of the VAD Program at MCH.
- Describe the typical progression of life with an LVAD for destination therapy.
Bio:
The presenter joined Mayo Clinic in 1998 as an RN and was the Operating Room Supervisor when the hospital opened. In 2003 he graduated from Midwestern University with a Master’s Degree in Cardiovascular Science and began a career as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist. After briefly working in the Bay Area, he returned to MCH in 2005 to work as a staff Perfusionist till 2009 when the need for a dedicated trainer for mechanical circulatory support was identified, and the position of Cardiac Device Specialist was created. Jeff has occupied this position since it’s inception, providing staff, patient/caregiver, and community training in support of Nursing, Allied Health, and the CT Surgery practice.
