Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Analyze the multifactorial risk factors contributing to caries and periodontal disease in children and youth with developmental disabilities, including medical conditions, medications, and access to care.
- Evaluate how developmental disabilities and their treatments may influence oral health care needs and modify clinical decision-making in dental practice.
- Propose strategies for interprofessional collaboration between dental and medical providers to reduce barriers to oral health care for this population.
