Advanced Critical Care Nursing Online CNE Course: Neuromuscular Blockade

Nursing care for the medically paralyzed patient requires frequent assessment and intervention.  This course will review how neuromuscular blockades work and how to evaluate effectiveness in your patient.  Other concepts reviewed include nursing care strategies for the medically paralyzed patient. 

Target Audience

This course is designed for nurses working in intensive care units.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: 

  • Describe the difference between depolarizing and non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBA)
  • Discuss nursing care strategies for the patient receiving NMBA
  • State the rationale for the use of a peripheral nerve stimulator (PNS)
