Bio:
Kari Williams is a double board-certified Adult Health and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She performed her undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2001. She went on to receive her Master of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University in 2005. After obtaining her nurse practitioner certification, she started her practice for two years in Pulmonary Medicine and then spent the next fifteen years in Hospital Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic Arizona. Finally, in March 2022, she decided to pursue her lifelong passion to work in the Palliative care realm and joined the Palliative Medicine team at Mayo Clinic Arizona.  

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify the various symptoms most commonly faced by ALS patients.
  • State the major tenets of care addressed at each Multidisciplinary clinic visit.
  • Describe the role of each health care provider involved in the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Outline the steps of a palliative care consultation with a new ALS patient.
  • Identify the specifics of advance care planning in the ALS patient.
