Bio:

Renee has practiced emergency medicine for the last 13 years in Maine. She has always anticipated changing careers to palliative medicine and she has been delighted at the learning opportunities that continue to occur at Mayo Clinic Phoenix. In addition to being a physician, she is also a mother and wife. Some fun facts about Renee are that she taught scuba diving in Costa Rica, hiked 500 miles with her son and husband in Colorado and put on a charity production of Eve Ensler’s book, the Vagina Monologues to support a women’s shelter. 

 

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • 1. Define BODE Index for COPD Survival: BMI, Obstruction (FEV1), Dyspnea, Exercise Capacity
  • 2. Become familiar with the usual disease trajectory of COPD.
  • 3. Define the hospice criteria for COPD.
  • 4. Name several high-risk areas where patient complications commonly occur.
