Bio:
Natsu Fukui M.D. completed her HPM fellowship training at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC in 2019 and has been working at Mayo Clinic Arizona since. She currently works in the Palliative Medicine departments as Consultant, Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine, and Fellowship Program Director. She has a strong interest in the topic of cultural considerations in caring for patients with serious illness and has a specific interest in collaborating with medical interpreters to provide excellent palliative care.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:
- Describe the different perspectives on truth telling and how cultural values affect these perspectives.
- Examine how cultural differences in the practice of truth telling and truth concealment may affect our approach to shared decision making in palliative care.
