Summary: In this talk we will examine the paper, AQP1 Promoter Variant, Water Transport, and Outcomes in Peritoneal Dialysis, which examined the AQP1 gene variations and their association of treatment failure with PD resulting in death or PD failure.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:
- Identify how AQP1 gene mutations affect PD outcomes
- Distinguish limitations of this study regarding current clinical use
- Propose how genetic testing could alter treatment plans regarding dialysis
Bio: Isaak Ailts is a 2nd year Internal Medicine Resident at Mayo Clinic Arizona who is originally from Sioux Falls South Dakota. He completed his undergraduate at Luther College in Iowa and attended Medical School at University of South Dakota. He is interested in pursuing a career in Hematology and Oncology.
