This course covers a broad range of subjects in diagnostic pathology including, but not limited to, breast, genitourinary, gynecologic, gastrointestinal, thoracic, head and neck, soft tissue, cytopathology, hematopathology, and molecular pathology.
Target Audience
This course is designed for pathologists, pathologist assistants, pathology fellows and residents, and allied health staff with an interest in diagnostic pathology as well as surgeons and oncologists with an interest in new pathologic staging criteria.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Become familiar with the updates in the most recent WHO classification of thyroid tumors.
- Identify the diagnostic parameters for high-grade follicular cell-derived non-anaplastic thyroid carcinoma to covey the appropriate level of risk of associated with this diagnostic category.
- Define the broad diagnostic categories used in neuropathologic intraoperative consultations and how these preliminary assessments guide surgical decisions.
- Analyze how advanced molecular techniques, such as DNA methylation profiling, are pursued post-operatively to refine the initial intraoperative classifications and achieve a precise final diagnosis.
