The TB Contact Investigation Interviewing Skills Course is designed as an interactive, skill-building training to improve the abilities of both new and experienced staff who are responsible for conducting TB contact investigation interviews. The course provides an overview of the contact investigation process, basic communication and interviewing skills, and
opportunities to apply those skills in role play activities.

Target Audience

This course is designed for nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, social workers, and healthcare personnel working in a public health setting.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the purpose and objectives of a TB contact investigation.
  • Describe core concepts and skills required to conduct a TB contact investigation using a systematic approach.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interviewing skills to gather relevant medical and social history while adhering to appropriate ethical considerations.
  • Describe ways to confront and solve problems that may arise during the interview process.
  • Summarize how to conduct a contact assessment confidentially using effective communication techniques.
