November 6, 2024 - Internet Live Activity - Rochester, Minnesota

Despite technological advances and increased availability of health information, patients face numerous barriers to accessing, understanding and applying reliable health information.  This Mayo Clinic Health Education & Content Services event follows our recent seminars: “Patient Education as a Compassionate Act” and “Engaging Patient Education in the Digital Age.”  Presenters will describe current opportunities and challenges associated with generative artificial intelligence (genAI) and patient education, to update and guide clinicians and content creators concerned with accessible, safe and reliable health information.

The free seminar series is brought to you by Steven and Lynda Smith Family Fund in Diabetes Care and Education.

Target Audience

This course is designed for the many disciplines and clinicians involved in providing patient education to medical patients, including physicians, advanced care providers, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, care coordinators, health coaches, those who develop and deliver patient education content, and all who contribute to informing and empowering patients.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe opportunities and challenges associated with generative artificial intelligence (genAI) and patient education.
  • Review patient education best practices relevant to use of genAI.
  • Discuss future-state priorities for development and delivery of safe, accurate, and effective patient education.
