Dr. Bhavik Patel is a Senior Associate Consultant in the Department of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona (MCA). He is the Director of Artificial Intelligence and leads the Machine Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (MI•2) lab at MCA, which has helped initiate several AI developments across practice, research, and education. He also serves as the Medical Director for AI/ML Enablement and Innovation across the enterprise. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in 2021, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Stanford University where he was also the Director of Body CT and Associate Director for AI Implementation for the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging Center. He currently also holds a joint appointment at Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering as an Associate Professor in both the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering and the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence. He is also the medical director of the Mayo-ASU Center for Innovative Imaging.

Dr. Patel received his M.D. degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. He completed General Surgery Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts and subsequently completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center where he served as a Chief Resident. Dr. Patel completed his fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at Stanford Hospitals & Clinics and completed his MBA at Anderson School of Management at University of California in Los Angeles, California.

He is member of multiple national societies holding leadership positions in them. Dr. Patel has presented frequently at numerous international and national conferences. He has published close to 80 peer-reviewed articles, with AI related work in Nature journals.
