DESCRIPTION:
The Mayo Clinic Audiology externs each present on work they have done this year. Four presentations focus on audiology hearing/vestibular diagnostic testing and interpretation and one presentation focuses on hearing aid characteristics.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe audiological profile of patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial infections and outline serial measurement approaches for ototoxic monitoring in patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial infections receiving ototoxic treatments.
- Summarize the difference between targeted and universal cCMV screening techniques.
- Identify functional balance patterns among patients with vestibular migraine.
- Compare and contrast differences in hearing aid music programs with regards to overall output, linearity, and frequency response.
- Discuss total distance and its sensitivity identifying balance impairment in post-concussion patients through the modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction in Balance (mCTSIB).
PRESENTER BIO
Madison Bacca is a 4th year Au.D. student at the University of Northern Colorado. She received her Bachelors of Science in Audiology and Speech-Language Sciences from the University of Northern Colorado in 2020. She is currently completing her audiology externship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Haley Matthias Cater is 4th year audiology student at Ball State University completing her externship year at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She completed her undergraduate at Indiana University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Epidemiology. Her interests in the field of audiology include pediatric diagnostics, cochlear implants, and early detection of hearing loss. Upon graduation, Haley will begin her career as a pediatric audiologist at Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jerae Bryant is an AuD student enrolled in the Doctor of Audiology program at Pacific University and is also a current member of the Oregon Academy of Audiology. Jerae has three bachelors degrees from Portland State University in liberal studies, Spanish, and applied linguistics. From 2017-2019, Jerae was employed in the translation and localization industry as a U.S. Spanish Localization Quality Assurance Tester for WeLocalize in Portland, OR. Jerae has spent many years involved in language and music study and is now endeavoring to research the intersectionality between music and audiologic care. Jerae has completed full-time internships in San Antonio, TX and Missoula, MT, and is currently finishing his third-year externship at Mayo Clinic - Arizona.
Yesenia Castillo is a fourth-year audiology extern at Mayo Clinic, Arizona. She spent the last three years attending graduate school at Salus University in Pennsylvania, and she hopes to earn her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree this spring. Her professional interests include audiology diagnostics, vestibular science, and hearing technologies. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling.
Amanda Star, B.S. is an Audiology Extern at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. She earned her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Arkansas and will be earning her Doctorate of Audiology from Ball State University in May 2024. In 2023, she received the Indiana Speech and Hearing Association Outstanding Student Clinician Award.

Faculty | Biography |
Heather Clark, Ph.D. | Dr. Clark is the Chair of Speech Pathology in the Department of Neurology and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is board-certified by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her clinical responsibilities include differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing disorders in adults and children. She serves as co-investigator in several projects examining the nature of speech, language, and swallowing impairment in degenerative neurologic disease. Dr. Clark has served as a topic chair for the ASHA convention, program chair of the Conference on Motor Speech, and chair of the fall conference of the North Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association. |
Jill Gruenwald, Au.D. | Jill Gruenwald, Au.D., has been an audiologist with Mayo Clinic since 2018. She currently serves as the Audiology Clinic Manager and holds the rank of Instructor in Audiology. She is the Associate Program Director for the Au.D. Externship Program with the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Her clinical specialty areas include diagnostic testing and cochlear implant services for an adult population. |
Jamie Bogle, Au.D., Ph.D. | Jamie M. Bogle, AuD, PhD is the Division Chair of Audiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona and is an Assistant Professor of Audiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She earned her PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research interests include the integration of visual and vestibular information in individuals with complex central pathology, including concussion, and in improved understanding of the importance of vestibular gravito-inertial information into the autonomic nervous system. |
Greta Stamper, Au.D., Ph.D. | Greta C. Stamper, Au.D., Ph.D., is a clinical and research audiologist in the Division of Audiology in the Department of Otolaryngology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Her interests include adult aural rehabilitation and hearing loss prevention. Dr. Stamper obtained her bachelors, masters, and clinical audiology doctorate (Au.D.) degrees from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. She obtained her Ph.D. in Audiology at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, KS and Lawrence, KS. In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Stamper is active in research and education. She serves as the Program Director for the Audiology Externship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. |
