LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Describe the mechanism of action, including both peripheral and central analgesic pathways, from peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) therapy
- Appraise the current level of evidence for PNS therapy in acute postoperative pain and chronic pain conditions
- Describe the multitude of peripheral nerves that can be targeted with PNS therapy and which specific surgery types may benefit from its application
- Outline the steps involved in implanting PNS devices, as well as managing them intraoperatively and postoperatively
- Propose the inclusion of PNS therapy in multimodal analgesia pathways and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols
