DESCRIPTION
This series consists of the following three (3) activities:

Trauma Resuscitation Case Conference
This activity is held on the 2nd Thursday of the month, 7 - 8 a.m. in the Gold Conference Room Midelfort Clinic, Eau Claire, WI.

This series is case review in nature, discussing recent multi-system trauma best practice trauma cases.  The trauma program manager and trauma medical director review recent trauma cases and select appropriate cases for conference.   This course is intended for those who work in trauma surgery, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, radiologists, pulmonology, anesthesiology who are involved in trauma care in NW WI.  Attendance is limited to trauma department members, physicians and mid-level practitioners.  

Trauma M&M Case Conferences
This activity occurs the 4th Thursday of the month, 7 - 8 a.m. in the Gold Conference Room Midelfort Clinic, Eau Claire, WI.

Conference is case review in nature, discussing recent trauma cases.  The trauma program manager and trauma medical director review recent trauma cases that have been highlighted by trauma audit filters and select appropriate cases for conference.  This course is intended for those who work in trauma surgery, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, radiologists, pulmonology, anesthesiology who are involved in trauma care in NW WI.  Attendance is limited to trauma department members, physicians and mid-level practitioners.  

Resuscitation Video Review Case Conference
This activity is held on the 2nd Monday of the month, Noon - 1 p.m. in the Gold Conference Room Midelfort Clinic, Eau Claire, WI.

This series is a video review of 2-3 recent cases in the trauma bay. The focus of the discussion is earlier recognition of shock, treatment of shock, education and brainstorming on systems improvement.  Sign-in for attendance is required and it is a peer review protected conference.  The trauma program manager, trauma medical director and Emergency department physician educator are the course planners and discussion moderators.    This course is available to all those that are involved in trauma care at MCHS Eau Claire; physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, spiritual care, EMT’s, laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, etc.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify gaps in trauma care specifically focusing on adequate resuscitation using the new whole blood and the massive blood transfusion protocol in the trauma patient in class 3-4 shock.
  • Explain adequate resuscitation using the new whole blood and the massive blood transfusion protocol in the trauma patient in class 3-4 shock.
  • Describe evidence-based strategies to standardize care in trauma patients in class 3-4 shock
