DESCRIPTION
Solid organ and stem cell transplant are complex therapeutic approaches and require a deep understanding of immunology, specific therapeutics, expertise in the care of post-transplant complications and patient support. The aim of the Transplant Core curriculum is to provide in a didactic format the broad education that is needed to ensure that the transplant physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, and nurses are able to safely care for such patients.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Grand Rounds are attended by a broad audience including physicians, surgeons, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technologists, research and support personnel with a wide variety of backgrounds that share in the care of patients undergoing transplantation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Develop core competencies in the care of patients undergoing or after transplantation.
- Provide a wholistic view of the patient before and after transplant.
- Demonstrate how to share good and bad news with patients and their families.
