Genetics and Genomics Nursing Online Series: Precision Medicine Through Cancer Genomics

This online course provides essential information on cancer genomics. Attendees will learn the different types of genetic testing for cancer, identify patients who would benefit from genetic testing, understand genetic testing results and describe hereditary cancer syndrome surveillance.

This nursing course is designed for nurses interested in increasing use of genomics in patient care.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define differences in somatic, germline, and commercial testing
- Identify patients who would benefit from genetic testing
- Describe the difference between pathogenic variants and variants of uncertain significance
- Review case study on a hereditary cancer syndrome
- Discuss surveillance outcomes of a rare hereditary cancer syndrome
