LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: 

  • Define locoregional recurrence, associated risk factors, and treatment recommendations
  • Assess data and guidelines surrounding contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) for index breast cancer
  • Identify factors contributing to CPM at the time of mastectomy for ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR)
  • Examine how this information can guide patient education and assist with surgical planning
  • Discuss current guidelines for management of local and regionally recurrent breast cancer
  • Summarize institutional data regarding neoadjuvant systemic therapy for triple negative and HER2+ local and regionally recurrent breast cancer
  • Recognize candidates for neoadjuvant endocrine therapy to assess endocrine responsiveness in patients with ER+ HER2- local and regionally recurrent breast cancer
