Brian Hurwitz is Professor of Medicine and the Arts at King’s College London. His research embraces narrative studies in relation to medicine, law and the logic and literary forms of case reports.  He has held honorary chairs in the Motor Disorders Unit of the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, University College London, as well as in the Medical School of the University of Sydney and the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in Hong Kong University. Prior to his current position he was Professor of Primary Care at Imperial College London.

Learning Objectives 
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the key elements that go into the making of communiqués which are today called anecdotes, including their healthcare visions. 
  • Identify the structures, language and cognitive effects of contemporary healthcare anecdotes.
  • Recognize the epistemological roles which anecdotes play in understanding past and present healthcare and illness experiences.
