LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the key contributions of the efforts of the Mayo Aero Medical Unit to life-support systems and novel biomedical instrumentation during WWII
  • Recognize the important role of Dr. Wood and his team in the establishment of cardiac catheterization at Mayo Clinic and the key tools that enabled that effort from the wartime work
  • Draw the connections between the wartime work in challenging environments and the emergence of technologically advanced clinical tools that serve patients to this day
