LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Review the neuropathology of Alzheimer’s disease and its relationship to aging
- Describe the methodological design of a study of preclinical Alzheimer’s disease
- Demonstrate the cognitive, imaging, and behavioral changes that precede the symptomatic diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment
PRESENTERS BIO
Dr. Richard J. Caselli is a Professor of Neurology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He is also the Henry Uihlein II and Mildred A. Uihlein Foundation Named Professor of Medical Research in the Mayo Clinic Enterprise. He joined Mayo Clinic in 1980 and is currently a board-certified Consultant within the Department of Neurology. Dr. Caselli holds Master's Faculty Privileges in Neuroscience at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He is the Clinical Core Director as well as the Associate Director of the Arizona Alzheimer's Disease Center. He is also Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Arizona State University as well as being Adjunct Clinical Faculty in their Arizona Biodesign Institute.
Dr. Caselli completed his AB degree in Biology at Columbia University, New York, NY and received his MD degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. He completed an Internship in Internal Medicine through Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN. He went on to complete a Neurology Residency at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, MN. He completed his training with a Fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Iowa Carer College of Medicine, Iowa City, IA.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, is an active member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, American Medical Association, American Neurological Association, International Brain Research Organization, Sigma Xi the Scientific Research Society, and Society for Neuroscience. He is on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer's Association Desert Southwest Chapter and the Flinn Foundation, as well as being an Advisory Board Member for the Arizona State University WP Carey School of Business Center for Services Leadership. Some of his numerous honors include receiving Educator of the Year in Medical Specialties three times from the Mayo Clinic Arizona Fellows Association, he also received the Lifetime Educator's Award, Best Speaker - Clinical Reviews, Distinguished Clinician Award, and the Robert A. Kyle Distinguished Investigator Award from Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
Dr. Caselli has 265 peer-reviewed publications and 149 abstracts related to his fields of interest. He also has written one book, 4 book reviews, 29 book chapters, 4 commentaries, 5 editorials and 12 letters. He is an active participant and member of many departmental committees within Mayo Clinic.
