Dr. Sharon McCartney is a cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist at Duke University, where they perform >100 heart transplants per year, in addition to being the first site in the United States to perform the first DCD heart transplant. Dr. McCartney has been intimately involved in the transplant center, from selection of patients to intraoperative and postoperative management within the ORs and the CT-surgical intensive care unit. Additionally, Dr. McCartney's academic and research interests lie within the fields of heart transplantation and echocardiography, and she has published within this realm, in addition to being an invited speaker at national societal meetings, in addition to visiting professorships, to share her expertise within the field of heart transplantation.
Dr. Bryner received his medical degree and a master’s degree in clinical research from the University of Michigan in 2009. He completed a general surgery residency program at Michigan as well in 2016, followed by a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Duke University from 2016-2019. Since then he has been an assistant professor of surgery at Duke University specializing in heart failure surgery, ECMO and mechanical circulatory support. Duke was the leading enroller in two major trials of the Organ Care System heart preservation device.
