Keith Rasmussen, MD

Introduction

Dr. Rasmussen completed his medical training at the University of Virginia and his psychiatry residency at Emory University.  He is a professor of psychiatry and psychology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester and has been a practicing psychiatrist for 23 years.  He has concentrated his scholarly efforts on electroconvulsive therapy.

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • List the implicit ethical assumptions a psychiatrist or psychologist makes when publicly commenting on the mental health of a political candidate.
  • Cite two examples in which presidential candidates’ fitness for office was publicly questioned by mental health professionals who had never evaluated them in person and who did not have their consent for doing so
