Following the discussion, the intended audience should gain familiarity with the following:

Preoperative assessment for solid organ transplantation

  • Describe areas of concern for anesthesia teams in terms of preoperative assessment and planning.
  • Describe recommendations for cardiac assessment in solid organ transplant candidates and how they pertain to anesthesia management.

Blood management

  • Explain patient blood management and opportunities for blood stewardship in the perioperative setting.
  • Describe restrictive targeted component transfusion and parameters.

Basics of anesthesia

  • Describe the basics of anesthesia plans for solid organ transplantation and considerations for post-op care.
