Speaker #1: Liliana L. Patarroyo Rodriguez, M.D., M.S.


Title: Effectiveness of Intravenous Ketamine/Intranasal Esketamine in Reduction of Suicidality Related Emergency Visits in Patient with Treatment Resistant Depression: A Mirror- Image Study 

Introduction:
Dr. Liliana Patarroyo-Rodriguez was born and raised in Ibagué, Colombia. She earned her medical degree from Universidad del Tolima Medical School and completed psychiatry residency training at Unisanitas. While working as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, she completed a master’s in epidemiology and became actively involved in clinical research. She also served as an associate professor at Universidad de los Andes Medical School, where she was engaged in both education and mentorship. Motivated to further her psychiatric training, Dr. Patarroyo-Rodriguez joined the Mayo Clinic’s general psychiatry residency program, where she has been part of the research track, contributing to projects within the Ketamine Clinic. She is set to graduate this summer and will continue at Mayo Clinic as a Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellow.  

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognize the contribution of depression and suicidality to the global burden of disease 

  2. Identify the clinical relevance of the study results 

  1. Outline the key methodological aspects and findings of this study 

  2. Identify differences between conventional antidepressants vs ketamine/esketamine in suicidality  

 

Speaker #2: Liz E. Fischer, M.D.


Title: Trauma- Informed Education: Implementation of a Nursing Educational Program and Trauma Stress Screener on an Inpatient Child and Adolescent Psych Unit. 

Introduction: Dr. Fischer is now in her second year of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, where she serves as a co-chief fellow. She is also enrolled in the Young Child track, reflecting her deep commitment to early childhood mental health. Her clinical interests include working with young children and advancing trauma-informed care, areas in which she hopes to make a meaningful impact. 


Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the core principles of trauma-informed care as they relate to child and adolescent inpatient psychiatry  

  1. Evaluate the preliminary outcomes and implications of a trauma-informed informed educational program for inpatient psychiatry nurses 

  1. Summarize the process and challenges of integrating a trauma stress screener on an inpatient child and adolescent psychiatry unit
