Speaker #1: Helder K. Yoshii, M.D.
Title: Non- US International Medical Graduates: Challenges, Consequences, and Solutions
Introduction:
Dr. Yoshii obtained his medical degree from Faculdade de Medicina do ABC in Brazil and completed his psychiatry residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center/ Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. He also completed a one-year fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (BPSI). Dr. Yoshii is currently pursuing a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, with active involvement in the young child track.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Identify the key challenges that non-US International Medical Graduates (IMGs) face when immigrating and practicing medicine in the US.
Assess the potential implications of these challenges on non-US IMGs and patients.
Review strategies to address these challenges.
Speaker #2:Luke J. Klugherz. M.D., Pharm. D.
Title: Psychological Strategies for Prescribing
Introduction:
Dr. Klugherz received his Pharm. D. from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, before completing medical school at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. He is currently a PGY-4 psychiatry resident at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he also serves as a chief resident. His professional interests include clinical communication and the intersection of medical and mental health issues. Upon completing residency in June 2025, Dr. Klugherz will join Allina Health in Woodbury, MN, as an integrated outpatient psychiatrist.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Define psychodynamic psychopharmacology.
Evaluate evidence of psychodynamics.
Demonstrate practical tools for using psychodynamic psychopharmacology.
