Mayo Clinic Stimulation Therapies for Epilepsy 2025
This course will only be offered Live (in-person)

Course Directors: Brian Lundstrom, MD, Ph.D. and Jamie Van Gompel, MD
May 7 - 9, 2025 - Hilton Rochester Mayo Clinic Area - Rochester, Minnesota
Epilepsy treatment using stimulation therapies is a rapidly developing field of practice. Many established neurologists and neurosurgeons are not familiar with the latest technological and surgical advances. For example, providers may not be clear when invasive versus noninvasive therapies for epilepsy treatment are most appropriate or what options exist. Similarly, practitioners may not know how or when to apply vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) versus responsive neurostimulation (RNS) versus deep stimulation.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
As part of the Mayo Clinic Stimulation Therapies for Epilepsy poster session, the presentation of original research related to the field of Neurology and Neurosurgery will be held at the meeting. Accepted abstract recipients will be notified by email after the deadline, April 25, 2025. At least one of the authors must register and attend the conference.
Submit an abstract or work in the area of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Submitted abstracts may include: case series, case-control studies, randomized trials, outcome studies, quality improvement projects, practice innovations and interesting case reports. Poster presentations will be peer-reviewed.
Target Audience
Physicians, fellows, residents, PAs/NPs, nurses, engineers, researchers, graduate and medical students, and industry employees
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Explain the importance of neurostimulation to multidisciplinary epilepsy teams and patients.
- Demonstrate advanced programming techniques for vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), responsive neurostimulation (RNS), and deep brain stimulation (DBS).
- Describe advanced surgical techniques for placement of stimulation devices for epilepsy.
Attendance at any Mayo Clinic course does not indicate or guarantee competence or proficiency in the skills, knowledge or performance of any care or procedure(s) which may be discussed or taught in this course.
