This session provides civil surgeons with an overview of the Technical Instructions for Civil Surgeons and highlights the latest guidelines and procedures for TB screening, diagnosis, and reporting.
Target Audience
This series is targeted to allied health professionals, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, residents/fellows, and civil surgeons, as well as advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health staff who help support civil surgeons and status adjusters.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Master the framework of the TB technical instructions and how to find guidance for unusual TB screening scenarios
- Identify requirements regarding individuals who present to the civil surgeon exam with symptoms potentially concerning for TB
- Explain the rationale for sputum testing in certain individuals and presentations
- Outline the steps in referral and documentation for applicants requiring a public health evaluation for TB
