PRESENTATION TITLE
Development of Exposome Research Methods to Support Inclusion of Lifelong Environmental Exposures Into Precision MedicinE
PRESENTATION HIGHLIGHT
For the last decade researchers have been focusing efforts on providing individualized treatment to patients with cancer. This has consisted of identifying genomic drivers for carcinogenesis along with targetable biomarkers. The next frontier of personalized cancer care is here, and Mayo Clinic is leading the charge with our ex vivo and neoantigen discovery programs.
PRESENTER
Dean Jones, Ph.D.
Professor of Medicine, Director of the Clinical Biomarkers Laboratory
Emory University
PRESENTER BIO
Dr. Jones is a professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine; and biochemistry (adjunct) at Emory University; and director of the Clinical Biomarkers Laboratory. His studies include redox biology and medicine, and he has research programs in the areas of redox systems biology, clinical metabolomics and environmental health. In recent years, Dr. Jones has also developed an exposome research program, building upon the metabolomics and mass spectrometry programs for affordable, high-throughput environmental chemical biomonitoring.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After the presentation, attendees will be able to:
- Summarize the background of the Exposome as a complement to the Genome as major factors impacting human health and disease
- Describe progress with powerful new -omics scale “clinical chemistry” analyses which are poised to revolutionize health prediction and precision therapeutics
- Integrate topic to allow for open discussion of needs, challenges and opportunities
