Session date:
04/05/2022 - 12:10pm to 1:10pm

Although the connection between the heart and mind was first recognized by the ancient Egyptian philosophers, the field of Cardiac Psychology/Psycho-Cardiology did not begin until 1959.  Much research has been conducted since that time to understand the complex bidirectional relationship between cardiac conditions and psychiatric concerns.  This presentation will illustrate how far this field has come with regards to understanding the psychological factors that impact heart health.  Dr. Priorello will also describe the various roles of a cardiac psychologist and summarize the most recent data on evidence-based psychotherapy interventions across cardiac populations.  Ultimately, this presentation will highlight the importance of continued collaboration of care across disciplines and future directions necessary to advance the field of Cardiac Psychology.
