This conference is designed to provide the basics of trauma/traumatic experiences and the effect on the mind, body, and soul. Participants will learn how to support clients who have difficulty regulating emotionally or physiologically as a result of their trauma. Learn to identify the indicators and symptoms of secondary traumatic stress conditions and the impact on staff.

 

Target Audience

This conference is designed for social workers and nurses working in all practice settings.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the effects of traumatic experiences on clients and the prevalence of those effects in individuals seeking medical services.
  • Identify concrete strategies for providing trauma-responsive services, regardless of the duration of care.
  • Recognize important differences between secondary traumatic stress, moral injury/distress, vicarious trauma, and burnout.
  • Identify potential predictors and specific indicators of these conditions and strategies for mediating the impact on professionals in a helping role.
