Currently there are limited options for these patients; transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS), recurrent therapeutic paracentesis, or an indwelling catheter ( PleuX). Sequana Medical have developed a medical implantable device ( alphapump) as another option in hopes of not only improving quality of life but reducing infection risks and improved nutritional benefit.
