03/08/2022 - 9:00am to 1:00pmMarch 8, 2022 - LIVESTREAM This course will augment the peer support network throughout Mayo’ enterprise. Sometimes caring for others involves experiencing painful things and clinicians become traumatized emotionally and/or physically. In this course, volunteer healthcare providers will be trained to become peer supporters for the HELP Program (Healing Emotional Lives of Peers). Its primary aim is to have colleagues prepared to engage in difficult supportive conversations after involvement in stressful or traumatic events. Often times, affected colleagues feel alone, isolated with nowhere to turn and no one to talk with. The HELP Program, along with these trained peer supporters, will be ready and available to support colleagues. Course content includes education on the second victim phenomenon, symptoms displayed, high risk clinical situations, the predictable recovery trajectory of second victims, & techniques to conduct a supportive conversation.
